Terms of Use
Last updated: November 3, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to the LockApp software (“LockApp”, “the App”) and to this website. By downloading, installing or using LockApp, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. What LockApp is
LockApp is a small, free macOS utility that limits continuous computer use. After a time period you choose, it either logs out to the macOS login screen or shows a full-screen break until the break period ends. It is intended as a simple, lightweight aid for families and individuals — not as a security product.
2. Free, open-source software
LockApp is provided free of charge. Its source code is publicly available at github.com/vgrassos/lockapp. You may review, build and modify the code for your own use, subject to the license terms published in that repository.
3. No warranty — provided “as is”
LockApp is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The author does not guarantee that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that it cannot be bypassed.
4. Not a security or parental-control guarantee
LockApp is deliberately simple. A knowledgeable user may be able to bypass it. It does not filter content, monitor activity or replace parental supervision. You remain solely responsible for supervising minors and for deciding whether LockApp is appropriate for your situation.
5. Your responsibilities
- Keep your master password and bypass PIN safe. If you forget them, you may need to remove the App or reset its settings manually.
- Save your work. When time runs out, LockApp may log you out or exit full-screen apps. Unsaved work in other applications may be lost.
- Grant the macOS permissions (e.g. Accessibility, Login Items) only if you understand and accept what they allow the App to do.
- Use LockApp only on computers you own or are authorized to manage.
6. Unsigned application
LockApp is not signed or notarized with an Apple Developer certificate. macOS may show a warning on first launch. By choosing “Open Anyway”, you accept the App as distributed. If you prefer, you can build it yourself from the published source code.
7. Privacy
LockApp runs entirely on your Mac. It does not create accounts, does not require an internet connection, and does not collect, transmit or sell personal data. Its settings (including your password and PIN) are stored locally on your computer. This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies; downloads are served by GitHub, subject to GitHub's privacy statement.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the author and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages — including loss of data, work, or profits — arising from the use of or inability to use LockApp, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
9. Third-party services
LockApp downloads and source code are hosted on GitHub. Your use of GitHub is governed by GitHub's own terms and policies.
10. Changes
These Terms may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. Continued use of LockApp after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
